A weekly, in-person, embodied voice workshop for anyone interested in exploring their vocal capacity particularly in relation to embodied movement.
I have trained with Alessio Castellacci & Irena Tomasin (The World is Sound) for over a decade and, more recently, with Kate Smith (The Embodied Voice) to re-integrate my voice within my body. As a teenager, I sang in multiple choirs and achieved my Grade 7 singing exams with merit only to start to lose my voice when I came to perform. My formal voice training taught me to freeze my body. My voice followed suit. I came to a freer relationship with my voice through embodied performance in my mid thirties and was profoundly impressed not only by how my body remembered so much of its vocal training but how expansive and grounding it was to bring the body into play as an active collaborator. This is what I hope to offer in these sessions.
This group is designed to settle you into your self, to expand your creative capacity and confidence, to bring you back together. Each session will let your voice play in and out of the movement and sensation, to re-integrate your body and voice, to explore what combinations arise from your particular body as a soloist and in relation to the group. We will start slowly and gently, tuning into sound and movement within your body and gradually expanding into playful combination with the group.
Sessions run from Fri 11th Sep until Fri 16th Oct.
Please arrive at 9.45am to settle yourself in the space before the session starts at 10am.
